Yuri Vodostoy

Technical translator and founder of Insight Translation

Yuri Vodostoy has translated technical and engineering documentation since 2012, and has been founder and director of Insight Translation since 2017. Most of his recent work is nuclear-power documentation, alongside mining, machine-tool building, and metrology. These are the hard documents: operation and maintenance manuals, technical specifications, engineering drawings, and strength, aerodynamic, and reliability calculations, where one wrong term changes how a component is built or inspected.

He designed and teaches a full nuclear-engineering translation course, covering NPP operating principles, pipeline valves and fittings, pressure vessels, non-destructive and destructive testing, metallurgy, heat treatment, welding, and conformity assessment. In a university master's program he teaches translation quality assessment and linguistic QA, building custom metrics on the MQM framework and showing students how to measure errors rather than argue about them.

He has worked with international language-service providers, including TransPerfect, Mother Tongue, Ulatus, and CCJK, and runs a hands-on practicum in technical translation, CAT tools, and machine-translation post-editing. He has interpreted consecutively since 2018 and works in English and Portuguese.

That work led him to build AI translation tooling, including HardTrans — whole-document translation that keeps terminology consistent across long files, scores about 85 to 90 in blind LQA, and runs roughly ten times faster than translating by hand.
